Winning at poker
What does one need to do to win at poker? A poker player must have good decision-making skills, perseverance, and patience. Not only that, a poker player with luck on his side may be harder to beat.
Poker requires good decision-making, because poker is all about situations. To know what to do in a certain situation and what situation will suit best with your desired action is a talent that needs to be mastered. You do not need to have good hands every round in poker; you just need to know how to play your cards. For example, you have a pre-flop hand of 7 and 8. While other poker players would fold with this type of hand, you may do otherwise, it's all up to you to decide. You can wait for the community cards and see if you form a good hand eventually. If it turns out to be a good set of community cards, say another 7 and 8 plus a 5, then that's a good decision. Imagine if you've folded, then you'll regret your decision. If you fold too much in the game, you will not be able to play a lot of community cards. If the community cards turn out badly, you could always bluff other poker players. Remember that you could not always get good cards, sometimes you have to bluff. When to bluff is up to your poker decision-making skills.
To be able to win constantly at poker, you have to persevere. You have to work hard with your poker skills and strategy and you have to learn every aspect of poker. No one succeeds in giving up, even at poker. There's no such thing as "you will never win", same with "you will always lose". With that in mind, you really have to persevere to be able to have more wins than losses.
Accompanying perseverance is patience. Poker, too, requires patience. People have this misconception that just because poker is a gambling game, it means that you could have it all in one strike. But, what if the strike doesn't come at the beginning, and that you have to wait? Then you must wait like a tight poker player does. Do not let bad hands or bad games upset you and make you turn away from poker world. Quitters never win.
Lastly, some believe that luck is also a big factor in playing poker. That is why many believe in superstitions that will help them win at poker. Nothing bad really, except for the cases in which people rely more on superstitions than in their own skills.
